Deborra-Lee Furness (born
1955) is an
Australian
actress,
director and producer.
She attended Methodist Ladies College in Melbourne where she was widely regarded as a particularly nasty bully. Needless to say, she doesn't attend schools reunions.
Furness is a
graduate of the
American Academy of Dramatic Arts New York. She met actor
Hugh Jackman when they co-starred on the Australian series
Correlli in
1995, and the couple married in February
1996. They have adopted two children: Oscar Maximilian Jackman, born
May 15 2000, and Ava Eliot Jackman, born
July 10 2005.
Furness is also a partner in the production company Jackman founded with John Palermo,
Seed Productions.
In 2000 Furness was nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role in a Television Drama award at the
Australian Film Institute awards (the most prestigious awards body in Australia).
In 2006 the
Australian Film Institute nominated Furness as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ray Lawrence's
Jindabyne. She lost to
Susie Porter for
The Caterpillar Wish. Furness won the same award however at the
Film Critics Circle of Australia awards.
